PAS 2023 preview: Global aerospace industry comes together once again

Tomorrow marks the start of the 54th edition of the Paris Air Show (PAS), taking place at the Le Bourget Parc des Expositions 19-25 June, and bringing together global leaders to explore the latest aerospace industry trends and technological innovations.

The air show will house over 150 aircraft on the static park, with many being involved in the daily flying displays, while exhibitors from across the globe will demonstrate their latest solutions.

In 2019, 2,450 companies from 49 countries exhibited at the event, and more than US$140 billion worth of orders were placed. The show’s organiser, SIAE, a subsidiary of French Aerospace Industries Association (GIFAS), expects the 2023 edition to be even bigger with 2,497 exhibitors.

eVTOL innovation at PAS

Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) will be a hot topic at PAS 2023, with Eve Air Mobility making its first appearance after becoming a public company. The company will showcase its eVTOL aircraft, Urban Air Traffic Management (Urban ATM) software and portfolio of agnostic services and operations solutions. Visitors to Eve’s display will also be able to experience a virtual flight on its eVTOL aircraft through virtual reality technology using a special headset.

“The Paris Air Show brings together aviation’s global players and showcases the biggest news and the latest advances in the aerospace sector,” said Andre Stein, co-CEO of Eve. “Eve comes to Paris with tremendous momentum as we continue the development of our eVTOL, including progressing toward key programme milestones.”

AutoFlight will also be making its debut at PAS 2023, providing an opportunity for industry professionals and aviation enthusiasts to witness the world’s first public presentation of its eVTOL aircraft, Prosperity I – including full interior design of the cabin.

Sustainability and defence

Other aircraft on show during PAS 2023 will be Boeing’s 737-10, the largest member of the MAX family, and the new 777-9 which will both be in the show’s flying display. Boeing subsidiary Wisk Aero will debut its all-electric, autonomous 6th generation air taxi – which the company plans to certify for commercial passenger operations.

Embraer will also be in attendance, showcasing its commercial, defense, sustainability, and technology platforms. One of the highlights of the static display area will be the KC-390 from the Portuguese Air Force, the first NATO customer to operate the aircraft, that is making its debut in Paris.

There will also be pavilions dedicated to more than 25 different companies from across the globe, including the USA, Italy, Brazil and the Netherlands.

TJ Villamil, Senior Vice President, International Trade & Development at Enterprise Florida, Inc., which will be promoting Florida and the USA as a premier business destination, commented, “We’re looking forward to PAS and having the chance to extend our current business relationships as well as make new connections for the benefit of Florida and the USA. We’ll be talking throughout the event about the state and the country’s latest innovations and how we can grow business together.”
