Our ‘Value in Action’ series shares case studies that demonstrate the real value of our partners’ digital solutions in aviation. Read on to find out how aviation software house QOCO Systems delivers engine value and additional lifetime for a new fleet of long haul aircraft at Condor, through data.
For any airline, there comes a point where it is time to upgrade a fleet and introduce new aircraft and technology, and this is a big undertaking. With new aircraft come new engines and new technology requirements for their safe and effective operation. This was the case for Condor, a major airline based in Frankfurt, Germany, which had placed a large order with Airbus for new aircraft to replace its fleet. It took delivery of its first Airbus A330neo at the end of 2022 with a plan to fly further new A330neos every month until 2024 for its long haul routes, and a further 41 A32Xneo aircraft have been ordered for 2024 to replace its short and medium haul aircraft.
Condor had ordered its new A330neo aircraft with the latest Trent 7000 engine from Rolls-Royce, which is able to generate significant volumes of data that can be used to determine the engine’s condition and can be sent to Rolls-Royce for analysis. Until this point at the end of 2022, Condor had mostly exchanged data with engine OEMs by generating PDF documents from its MRO system and emailing them. This was a very time-consuming process which was prone to delays in data delivery and posed the risk of human error. Given the volume of data generated by the Trent 7000 engine, and the high number of new aircraft being introduced to the fleet, this approach would not be feasible going forward, so Rolls-Royce introduced Condor to its software partner QOCO Systems, who were able to implement an intelligent and automated data sharing solution.
QOCO’s engine data solution supports automated dataflows between the airline and Rolls-Royce, which enables the airline to leverage the full benefit of engine condition analysis. This has the potential to enable Condor to keep its new Trent 7000 engines on the wing for up to 50% longer, depending how the engines are used, which will provide significant savings for the airline. QOCO’s solution is an out of the box, plug and play data exchange solution and has all the safety features you’d expect on a data exchange platform, such as information security as QOCO is ISO27001 certified. In terms of daily operations, despite the integration of this new technology into its fleet, Condor has not needed to enlist any additional manpower to manage the data exchange because the processes are automated. Condor has also experienced the additional benefits of reducing delays and the risk of human error involved in sharing this data.
Condor has found working with QOCO to be highly beneficial and notes three key highlights of the arrangement. Firstly, QOCO’s industry expertise and existing partnership with Rolls-Royce means they have both the knowledge and solutions specifically designed to meet Condor’s needs. Secondly, QOCO’s integration capability is a key benefit. QOCO solutions have plugins for all the main systems in the aviation industry, meaning there’s no significant development requirement and cost. Thirdly, QOCO provides a fully managed service, so every time a challenge arises, QOCO steps in to ensure service continuity.
QOCO’s solutions and services
QOCO intelligently addresses the aviation industry’s most complex challenges with the following agile solutions:
- io is a data exchange and integration service for aviation industry operators, such as OEMs, engine MROs and lessors, airframe MROs, airlines, and digital service providers. The solution was developed to streamline data exchange, reduce manual data entry work, and enable better collaboration between aviation parties.
- io is leading tool management software used by airlines and MROs to simplify the booking, returning, and tracking of aircraft maintenance and repair tools. Using a simple barcode scan, with the capability to support RFID, the solution streamlines processes, provides better visibility, and reduces the impact of any lost tooling to their operation.
QOCO Systems also offers professional consultancy services for digitalisation. With more than ten years’ experience and involvement in 50+ projects related to MRO software systems, the QOCO team supports aviation industry leaders to develop and implement complex system integration and data migration.
