Twin perspectives on the evolution of aviation digitalisation

As the world looks towards a post-pandemic phase, aviation has experienced an unprecedented acceleration of change. To dive deeper into the way digitalisation is changing this industry, and see how the key trends in technology are interacting at this unique time, we sat down with two industry thought leaders: Rakesh Narayanan, vice president and regional general manager for Asia Pacific travel solutions airline sales for Sabre, and Carlos Kaduoka, vice president for portfolio at SITA.

“We’re in a pivotal year for the travel industry,” says Sabre’s Narayanan. “The pandemic has created a landscape that is encouraging digital transformation and innovation at an accelerated pace. It’s more important than ever that airlines are able to transform their business processes by leveraging digital technologies, to create greater opportunities for efficiencies and increased revenue while scaling their operations quickly to meet recovery demand, even with fewer resources.”

Crucial to the success of every aviation organisation as we look forward from 2022 is the ability to adapt to market trends, analyse and respond to passenger behaviours, and pivot positioning where necessary — and their product where possible. For an industry heavily dependent on capital investment in aircraft, airports and other big-ticket items, the amortisation of which is measured in decades, this can feel like big ask.
